Church helps flood victims clean up damage

This group of 60 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God is taking on the Greenspoint area, one block at a time. They moved on the flooded streets this afternoon, after cleaning out ruined furniture from apartment.

A church is celebrating after receiving the country’s highest award for voluntary work in communities across the region. The World Mission Society Church of God (UK Zion) has been given the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. The church’s volunteers, who are recognisable by their bright yellow T-shirts, have carried out work in Wigan and Leigh over the past few years including cleaning up the town centres, tidying Mesnes and Jubilee parks and providing activities for elderly residents at care homes in Norley Hall and Pernberton.

Highest accolade

A voluntary group which spends many hours cleaning up in Bury has been recognised by the Queen. The World Mission Society Church of God (UK Zion) based in Old Trafford is a group of volunteers who work across Manchester and the surrounding areas helping out. Their tasks include care-home visiting, clean-up campaigns, graffiti removal, youth festivals, disaster relief and blood drives. The group received the highest voluntary accolade in the U.K.: the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

A rash of robberies on Capitol Hill has residents looking for a way to fight back and protect themselves. Sunday night, the World Mission Society Church of God held a neighborhood crime watch fair. It helped teach residents what to do and what not to do should they encounter a robber. And there were tips on how the neighborhood could help reduce the risk of robberies as well.
