2008 Winter Vacation Camp for Students

  • Nation | South Korea
  • Date | January 13, 2008
Teenagers are called pillars because they march forward, carrying the future. However, these days, teenagers are stressed by the com-petitiveness of entrance exams and are apt to deviate from their tasks, being tempted to play computer games. The Camp for Students is an event held during every vacation to help teenage students find pleasure in studying and establish a bright future, fostering their dreams and abilities.

During winter vacation this year, too, the “2008 Winter Vacation Camp for Students” was held from January 13th until the 27th. About 4,400 students from the 42 Associa-tions attended this camp which provided many programs to help the students learn English more easily with fun and other various programs focusing on the develop-ment of humanity. The students were able to confirm the love between their family members when they spent time with their parents at the Camp. They felt the spirit of their nation and its independence will when they visited the Seodaemun Prison History Museum and the Independence Hall. They also felt the joy of volunteering by participating in cleanup.

With the students’ voluntary and active participation, in addition to the teachers’ fun and skillful teaching, the camp progressed in an energetic and joyous atmosphere every day. On the last day, various performances were held and the camp was filled with great excitement. Based on the things they had learned, they prepared dances, songs, short plays and many others, and displayed their talents in front of their friends and parents.

Especially, the most touching scene was when the students and parents were together. They performed a play where they switched roles, through which they were able to understand each other better. Singing the new songs together and reading letters written for each other, the parents and children expressed their love for each other. This touched the heart of every attendant.

When the Camp was over, one of the students who had gained many good memo-ries said, “It was a good opportunity to become close to the friends I didn’t know before. I realized that it is very beautiful and exciting to concede to each other, to share love and to be united. I will not forget what I learned during the Camp and I will study harder at school!”

Through the “2008 Winter Vacation Camp for Students,” the youth group members learned how to live together and got ready to leap into the new semester, dreaming of a bright and happy future.
