Welcoming the winter vacation, the Churches of God carried out the “2014 Winter Student Camp” for about one month of January. As years go by, the range of the camp programs such as Bible study, field experience, and volunteer services have been expanded.
The pastoral staff and guidance teachers proceed with the Bible study customized for students by using visual materials such as videos and power point presentations. And the manner and character education on the basis of the Bible was also conducted for the students to take on the role of the salt and light of the world.
Apart from these, the students themselves prepared the Sermon Preaching Contest and the Bible Seminar at each local church. The student presenters explained the truth that they had diligently studied before their friends and families, with great conviction.
In the field experience that mainly consists of visits and handcrafts, many students participated together with their friends. They visited historical sites, museums, the War Memorial, the Independence Hall, and science museums, and checked out for themselves the history and science that they had studied only through textbooks, and looked around governmental institutions such as courts and the National Assembly Building. At the Safety Training Center, they obtained useful knowledge about how to escape disasters and how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and more.
Inside the church, handcrafts such as color-mix crafts, copperplate crafts, and the cooking contest were performed. And also, through various recreations, the students could work all together, opening their hearts.
Students’ volunteer services were more active than usual. Street cleanups, removing posters, snow removals, blood donations, feeding migratory birds, and visit to sanatoriums were carried out by the student group of each local church. The students, who visited senior citizens living alone, delivered coal briquettes and set up insulation with bright smiles so that they would spend cold winter warmly.
The remarkable part of this student camp was the character education for youths. The Church of God invited celebrities from the educational, political, and economic circles to give lectures to students. The students listened to the lectures with limpid eyes, and the lecturers had a meaningful time by sharing their knowledge and realizations with the students.
“Since I became a high school student, I was exhausted by studies both physically and mentally. But this student camp became a turning point to me. While study-ing the Bible and interacting with many students through various activities, I was encouraged in full smile. I had really a happy time during the camp.”
The student camp is held by the Church of God twice a year in summer and winter vacations to comfort students and to help them plan a bright future. During the camp, they recharge strength and joy in the love of God, preparing themselves for a new term. So every vacation is special to the students.
