The 2005 Assembly of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread

  • Nation |
  • Date | March 25, 2005
March 25, the next day of the Passover, was the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the 15th day of the first month by the sacred year. All the members of the Church of God, who celebrated the Passover holy, shared in the suffering of the Christ by fasting until 3 p.m. when Jesus breathed his last in the sufferings of cross, following the word of the Bible, "Fast on the day when the bridegroom will be taken from them (Mk 2:18)."

The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a feast to commemorate the sufferings that the Israelites experienced for 7 days from the time of Exodus after keeping the Passover until they finished crossing the Red Sea while running away from the Egyptians, holding their children's hands, carrying their loads on their backs, and pushing the wagons. At that time they had to eat the bread without yeast for they left Egypt in haste, and it is called, unleavened bread, the bread of affliction. The sufferings the Israelites experienced at the time was a prophecy of the sufferings Jesus experienced until He died on the cross the day after the Passover.

While praying, Mother gave thanks to Father for the boundless sacrifice and love of Christ who saved His children, being scorned and persecuted and even crucified by the creatures as if He had committed high treason. Mother also asked Father to bless His children to remember His sufferings on the cross and put into practice the sacrificial love, so that they could produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

The Chief Pastor Joo Cheol Kim said, "The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a feast through which we should bear in mind the love and sacrifice of Jesus who suffered on the cross, taking away the sin of the world instead of us sinners. Let us give thanks for the endless love of God, who loved His children even to death, and walk the sacrificial path of the gospel for our brothers and sisters." He also reminded us, "Our fasting is nothing, compared with the sacrifice of Christ who gave up His life unsparingly, but God always gives us much blessing for this small thing we do, so we must repent and be reborn every day to repay for the grace of God."

After the morning worship service, the members reexperienced the love and sacrifice of Christ, watching 'The Passion of the Christ' which pictures the suffering of Jesus Christ for the last 12 hours of His life in the earth. They kept shedding tears of repentance, being deeply enlightened that the reason for the suffering of Christ, who was scorned, persecuted, despised and crucified with His flesh being terribly torn and bleeding so much, was only to save the His own children who had become the slaves of death.

The members were determined to follow the path of sufferings of Christ delightfully like Simon from Cyrene who climbed up Golgotha, carrying the cross instead of Christ in the film, and to spread the love of Christ to the whole world.
