On October 12 (the 10th day of the seventh month by the sacred calendar), the members who had asked for the forgiveness of sins with repentance for 10 days attended the Assembly of the Day of Atonement to be forgiven of their sins which they had committed for the last one year. This day, all the members of the Church of God over the world commemorated the Day of Atonement and received the blessing of the forgiveness of sins in Zion. They gave thanks to God who became a sin offering for sinners.

The Day of Atonement originated from Moses' works as well as the Feast of Trumpets. While Moses stayed on Mount Sinai for the first time to receive the Ten Commandments, the Israelites committed a great sin against God by making and worshiping a golden calf. Moses saw this and he threw the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments out of his hands and broke them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. This brought a great disaster upon them and about three thousand of them died. After that, they put all things in order and took off all their ornaments, and they prayed to God with repentance.
God forgave them who had repented of their sins, and gave Moses the Ten Commandments a second time. The day Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the second Ten Commandments after fasting for 40 days became the Day of Atonement. The Israelites prepared for the Day of Atonement, blowing the trumpets on the 1st day of the seventh month by the sacred calendar every year, and kept the Day of Atonement on the 10th day of the seventh month.
On the Day of Atonement, the high priest offered a sin offering with the bull's blood to make atonement for himself and his household, and offered a sacrifice to make atonement for the people in the Most Holy Place only once a year. The high priest carried the sins of the people on the male goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat representing the devil, and the goat was sent away to the desert and died there. This shows that the people's sins, that were carried to the sanctuary through various sacrifices held with animals' blood, are carried on the scapegoat which represents Satan, and as the scapegoat faces deaththe wages of sinsin the desert, the sins of the people become extinct completely. It means that people's sins, carried temporarily to Christ, the sanctuary, are carried on Satan through the Day of Atonement, and so they are cleansed and released from their sins.
On the Assembly of the Day of Atonement, Mother thanked Father who came to this earth and released His children from their sins eternally by sacrificing Himself. She asked Father to let His children who were cleansed through His grace bear many good fruits with the blessing of the Holy Spirit. Mother also prayed to make children thank for God's grace for choosing them among many sinners and leading them to the place of salvation, and to let them share the love and grace of salvation with all peoples of the world. Mother also prayed that Her children will be cleansed from all their sins and be great vessels who can cover up even the faults of brothers and sisters who are coming like clouds from the world. ⓒ 2005 WATV
The Chief Pastor Kim Joo-cheol said in the morning service, "Let us not forget God's pain and suffering who came as the Lamb to take away the sin of the world and carried the sins of all the people, and be the mature children who do not sin again," and asked, "We can get an opportunity to go to heaven because God has forgiven our sins, so let us give thanks to God every day for forgiving our sins that can not be forgiven neither with gold nor silver."
In the afternoon service, he preached about "Disasters and Salvation." He urged the members to do their mission as prophets, saying, "As God prophesied that there would be famines and earthquakes in various places in the end of the age, various disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons and plagues are occurring in this age. Now we should carry out our duty as couriers who spread the news of life. Many disasters that are happening now in various places are like the voice of God that urges repentance, shouting, 'Hurry to come to Zion, the safe place.' We should hurry to gather people trembling in fear to Zion, the safe fortified city."
The members who were cleansed from their sins decided to do their best to save souls, not repeating foolish acts of putting their sins on God's shoulders.
After the holy assembly Mother said, "Many disasters are happening in the world now. We should not consider that they are someone else's problems. We should lead people to flee to Zion with love as we are God's children who have received the blessing of eternal life and the forgiveness of sins." Mother also asked the members to blow the trumpet of salvation more diligently. "It is much better to lead people to God by letting them know the way of salvation before the disasters come upon them than to help them after the disasters occur to them," Mother emphasized.
Hopefully the members will engrave the earnest voice of Mother in their hearts who prays for the spiritual safety of children every day, and will preach the news of salvation to the ends of the earth.
