Environment Guards Loving Nature, Neighbors and Regions

The members of the Church of God in Korea have functioned as the salt and light of the society through their various volunteer works. In this autumn season, too, they are warming the hearts of people and spreading the love of God by their good deeds.


Cleanup activities of the 3rd Gangdong Church in Seoul: "We began a week with smile!"

On September 4 the first Sunday in September, around 30 members from 3rd Gangdong Church in Seoul gathered to clean up Cheonho Park. For the last 9 months they have cleaned the park more than 50 times.

They swept the fallen leaves and rubbishes such as cigarettes thrown in the promenades, and cleaned the wastes from the lakes. An official called Gwak Mun-su who had watched their volunteer activities for several months said, "The residents in this village have been very impressed by their voluntary works. I hope more members will join their work, so that the whole society may protect our own environment."

Pastor Park Gyu-seo said, "Religion and the society have the intimate relationship because both of them have to try hard to make better the life of inhabitants. We hope that our little effort to spread the love of God can make our society and the whole nation clean and beautiful."

In addition to the cleanup activities, they visited "Gangdong Kkumnamu School," which is a juvenile protection center and delivered electric blankets and cleaned their classrooms. And 110 members of the Church donated blood. Recently they have held "Campaign of Sharing Smile Badges." They've become mood-maker in their society.


Cleanup activities of the 2nd Yangcheon Church in Seoul: "We guard our village, Mok-dong!"

On September 7, over 40 woman members from the 2nd Yangcheon Church gathered in front of Mok2-dong office and cleaned up the streets. Each team, composed of 5 members, cleaned every dirty waste such as cigarettes, gums and all sorts of trash with their own hands. The residents encouraged the volunteers, bringing them fruit and ice cream.

Kang Gyu-seo, the owner of a nearby market, praised the members' hard work, saying, "The members of the Church of God are different from others. They clean every little waste." The volunteers answered, "As many people praise and encourage us, we work even harder with responsibility."

After a little while, 10 huge trash bags were filled up. They gathered in front of the village office and recycled all the rubbish they collected. The Village Headman Ahn Myeong-hwan said with a bright smile, "Our village has become much more clean due to their efforts." This cleanup activity will be continued by the Church members' voluntary participation.


Cleanup activities of the Dongjak Church in Seoul: "We, the youth like the dew, clean our village!"

On September 11, over 30 young adult members from Dongjak Church cleaned the area around Seongdae Market in the afternoon. They swept trash, and cleaned all the waste stuck in sinkholes.

Whenever they passed each of stores, cleaning the streets, the merchants said, "Who are they? They are doing a good thing," "They are like angels." Noh Gwang-rim who runs a store in the market said, "They show a good example, working voluntarily for our society." The volunteers said, "We feel so satisfied when we see the streets cleaned up. It's like that all the dirt in our hearts have been cleaned."

Yoo Gyung-yu the Headman of Sangdo4-dong Village Office said, "Their bright smiles are very beautiful. They greatly help clean the village." The young adult members from Dongjak Church have had the volunteer work every once a month.


Cleanup activities of the Yeongjoo Church in Kyeongbuk : "We are environment guards of Yeongjoo!"

The Church of God in Yeongjoo in Kyeongbuk area also got the influenza of volunteer work. The members had a volunteer work of cleanup on the 11th of September. Many members from the young to the old gathered in Seo Stream to spread God's love and clean their village.

The members in pink clothes picked up all the rubbish willingly around the stream, saying, "Even though our clothes got dirty and we became full of sweat, we are happy because citizens can walk along the clean street now." The village office promised to offer them rubbish bags free for their volunteer works which will be done every month.

The volunteer activities of the Church of God are being a great help to the society. They are showing a good example of voluntary works to the people. They will continue their volunteer works and it will be the foundation to make better society.
