Korea was a great melting pot during 2002 FIFA World Cup. Korean soccer team entered the semifinal which nobody had expected, and the whole world was astonished. All the Koreans became one, being proud of their country's moving to the center of the world.
This World Cup was not irrelevant to God's Providence. Through the World Cup, Korea the far-off land in the east was known to the world.

Needless to say, church's function is to preach the good news. But Church of God has continually made efforts to serve the community it belongs to. During the World Cup, too, Church of God led citizens' campaigns for environment, order and voluntary service, for these are apt to be neglected behind the brilliant feast.

Positive participation in the matters of environment, order and voluntary service

On May 26, "The 2nd Campaign to Save the Han River" was held under the auspices of the Whole Assembly of Church of God. This yearly campaign was rearranged under the slogan of "Welcoming World People."

All the environmental movements, held yearly in each city, shouted 'Proenvironment World Cup'. Around the ten World Cup stadia, church members over 10,000 man-days launched an environmental campaign, offering brochures to citizens, and gained a great response from them.

Women members delivered comfort articles to the policemen who made efforts to achieve 'Peaceful World Cup.'

In various field church members volunteered for successful World Cup with the support from the Whole Assembly. All these activities came from the belief that Korea, a small country in the east, would be known to the world people. And actually Korea, located at the ends of the earth and known as 'Land of Morning Calm,' has come to stand high in the world.

This World Cup owed its success to the sweat of volunteers behind scenes. The world's applause to Korea will be shared by them.
